the gaze of salvador dali

Salvador Dalí fascinates me. Not just because of his surrealist spirit, but because of his iconic presence. His moustache and his eyes (always together, always exaggerated, always full of character) grab the lead role.

For this series, I translated four of his most iconic photographs into textile portraits. Graphic, bold, powerful, fully tufted; each work in a different format, but all full of colour and energy.

"Have no fear of perfection, you'll never reach it." - Salvador Dalí

When I was still working as a teacher, I taught my students: let go of your perfectionism, because it only puts you in a tight spot. Yet, as an artist, I had to remind myself of this again and again. Especially when it comes to the material I work with. Organic... always in motion and therefore never completely under control.

Perfect does not exist. But I also learnt that it is precisely in letting go that space is created for something real.

I learned to feel when something is right. To trust the process, the material and the energy that emerges.

the power of his gaze

Four iconic photographs by Salvador Dalí translated into graphic portraits bursting with colour and energy.

Each work is fully tufted, each in a different format. From afar powerful and expressive, up close full of detail and inviting to touch.

In textiles, his eccentric and outspoken look takes on an unexpected softness, making his presence literally tangible.

inspiration

Dalí in textiles is more than a portrait. It is an ongoing encounter. His eyes follow you, his gaze speaks.

The work brings character and energy into your space, but also softness that invites you to come closer.

Works that don't just fill a wall, but are a source of inspiration. Every day.
