Yesterday I acted stupidly. But if someone acts stupidly towards me, I sometimes act stupidly back.
I received a nice commission request. Really nice! Then someone sent me a photo of my work that is now hanging in the office. Really cool to see. Thank you, T.
And then I received a DM on Instagram from an American lady. She absolutely loved my work. Every sentence had exclamation marks. The words ‘in love’ and ‘fabulous’ were everywhere.
She had visited my website. And she was in love with one specific piece.
And now comes the best part: this work costs €4,500. And she wanted to buy it for $1,200. Including shipping.
Apparently, you can bid on my art as if we were on eBay.
Apparently, €4,500 is something you can easily get 75% from.
Apparently, you can expect the artist to pay for the frame, materials and shipping as well.
So yes, I responded in kind. I asked if she wanted to buy the top left or top right corner. Or the bottom left or bottom right corner?
She has read it and, of course, is no longer responding.
And yes, I could have let it go. Or responded politely.
But I didn't feel like it at that moment.
Art is not a bargaining game. Art is craftsmanship.
If you do understand the significance of craftsmanship, time, and skill, you are always welcome. You are also welcome to request information from me at any time, without obligation. Because if you take me (and my work) seriously, I will take you and any questions you may have very seriously as well.
