Elvis & Eva Gynaecology

Eva Jinek had interviewed me for her newsletter. The newsletter was published on Sunday morning, and straight after that my inbox, my Instagram DMs and my follower count there went through the roof. It was bizarre. I received so many responses that I hardly knew where to start.

And amongst all those messages and notifications, there was a Marktplaats advert. Someone had a litter. Everything I’d never actually dared to dream of.
Not from a puppy mill, but simply a litter raised by a family. Not a dog from abroad, but a newborn puppy. Not a dog costing thousands of euros, but still reasonably affordable.
And… a cross between a whippet and an Italian greyhound.
A combination that is almost unheard of.

I’d been looking for a litter for two years and now I’d spotted one, for the first time. But I’d made a promise to myself: I’d only be allowed to get a dog once I was financially stable.

And then that notification came through. On that very day. Amidst all those messages about the interview and my work. Well… what do you do then?

I thought: everything happens for a reason. So I sent an email asking if I could make a booking and have a night’s sleep on it.
Three days later I went to have a look, and six weeks later I collected my little girl.

Even though, at that point, I wasn’t actually financially stable at all.
But sometimes you have to take risks. And apart from the decision to resign and devote myself entirely to my art, adopting Elvis is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

With all the consequences that entails… Don’t you think? We just sometimes forget that those consequences can also be the most wonderful ones.
