explosion

In two weeks’ time, you won’t be able to get through here. By then, it’ll look as if there’s been a minor (wool) explosion.

On one side of the room is my tufting frame. There’s a commissioned piece on it. I’ve finished the embroidery, so I can start tufting. Around my frame, on the floor and on the cupboards, there are about 30 to 40 balls of wool. And they’ll stay there. According to my own system.
Because yellow and yellow are two very different colours, let’s just say. So if I put that particular yellow back in the cupboard and then need it later after all… well, which shade was it again? I can’t take that risk, so there are loads of balls scattered around my frame.

On the other hand, there are boxes full of materials for new abstract works that I’ve been preparing for months.

In the other corner is my table with a large embroidery hoop, where I’m working on an embroidery piece for yet another commission. It’s surrounded by bowls of wool too. Different wool, because I’m using different threads for this one.

Three projects at once. Three techniques. Three completely different set-ups.

On top of that, my works came back last week from the Unit4Art art gallery, where they had been on display for ten months. And I’ve just finished one of my largest works ever, which now needs to find a home too.
I literally have no more space.

That’s why, this Friday, I’ll be sending a one-off email to my newsletter subscribers featuring a selection of works at reduced prices. It’s the first time in four years. And I reckon it’ll be the last time, too. Because next time, I’ll be looking for a bigger studio.
