With Reflections I made a long-held wish come true: a large-format eye. After months of working on a commission in which I captured my clients' eyes in yarn, and previously selling a smaller eye, I felt it was time to go big myself. I wanted to see if I could increase the sparkle and depth that makes an eye so special without losing the intensity.
The result is a work that draws you in. The iris shines, the colours seem to move, and the wool shines as if real light is falling on it. Each thread contributes to an illusion of reflection. Not only a reflection of colour and shape, but also of emotion and presence.
The title refers to that layering: Reflections is about looking as well as reflecting, about the play of light and shadow, but also about what happens when you take the time to reflect on yourself. A work that fills the space with clarity and softness. It forces you to take a deep breath and relax.
