What does a mind look like? For me, it is a continuous flow of thoughts, energy and contradictions. I captured that in Brainwork.
The composition has two sides. The large, colourful side represents soul, positivity and self-confidence. Yellow predominates here: a colour that cannot be ignored, visible and energetic, but difficult to combine. Just as life force can often be uncomfortable and powerful at the same time. The other side is darker: a place where doubt, distrust and overthinking dwell.
Between the two sides, small, coloured plops appear everywhere, literally emerging from the work. Each in a different shade, each just a little higher. These are my distractions: the stimuli that constantly shift my attention. What I see, hear or smell immediately pulls my mind in another direction. Sometimes to the positive, sometimes to the negative, but always present.
This contradiction is at the heart of the work: two halves colliding but together making one whole, with the plops being a constant flow of impulses. With different pole heights and deep guy lines, the energy is literally palpable, as if thoughts and emotions keep moving.
Brainwork is fully tufted and exudes dynamism. It shows my (adhd) brain. Always active and always present. It brings tension and liveliness to the space and shows that strength and vulnerability are inseparable.
